You've been invited to a wedding in Mallorca, and the usual question arises: What should I wear? The answer depends on three things—the dress code on the invitation, the time, and the time of year. This is the tailor's guide to dressing well without outshining the happy couple.
First: Read the dress code
The invitation dictates the dress code. These are the three codes you'll see in Mallorca:
- Formal (black tie): Tuxedo, white shirt, and black bow tie. Only for evening weddings.
- Cocktail: Dark suit—navy blue or gray—with a silk tie. The most common code.
- Daytime / informal: Suit in lighter tones, fresh fabrics, tie optional.
If the invitation doesn't specify anything, a good navy blue or gray suit is always a safe bet.
The guest's suit
For most weddings, a made-to-measure suit in navy blue or medium gray is the perfect choice: elegant, versatile, and reusable long after the event. Save black for a tuxedo—a black street suit can be too somber for a wedding.

In Mallorca, the weather rules

- White and bridal tones—never compete with the couple.
- Outshining the groom—if it's not you, don't dress more formally than him.
- Being too informal—if the invitation asks for a suit, a wedding is not the place to go without a jacket.
- Street footwear—good dress shoes complete the look.
