It's the first question almost all grooms ask: morning suit, tuxedo, or suit? The answer is not a matter of taste, but of two specific things: the time of the wedding and its level of formality. In our Palma workshop, we tailor all three options; this is the quick guide to getting it right.
The Morning Suit: The ultimate daytime formal wear
The morning suit is the most formal attire for a morning or midday wedding. It's recognized by its long, curved tailcoat, waistcoat (often in light grey or beige), and striped trousers in grey and black. It's the classic choice for the groom in the most solemn ceremonies, as well as for the best man and fathers.
When: Formal morning or early afternoon ceremonies.

The Tuxedo: Evening elegance
The tuxedo (smoking) is the code for the evening, the black tie. It features a jacket with satin lapels—peaked or shawl—trousers with a silk side stripe, a white pleated shirt, and a black bow tie. The golden rule: never before sunset.
When: Evening weddings, from 6:00–7:00 PM onwards, formal attire.

The Custom Suit: Versatility and life after the wedding
For a less formal daytime wedding, a celebration at an estate or by the sea, a custom suit is the most versatile option — and the only one you'll continue to wear long after the big day. Navy blue or grey for a classic look; lighter tones and fresh fabrics like linen for the Mallorcan summer.
When: Informal, daytime, outdoor weddings.
A custom suit isn't returned the next day: it stays with you for years.
How to decide in ten seconds
- Morning wedding, very formal → morning suit
- Evening wedding, formal attire → tuxedo
- Daytime wedding, estate or beach, relaxed → custom suit
Still in doubt? The invitation dictates: if it says "black tie," it's a tuxedo, and if it asks for a "morning suit," it will say so literally. When it doesn't specify, a good custom suit is never wrong.
